When Maggie is hired to find a missing hiker in the Scottish Highlands, she quickly realizes that there's more to this case than meets the eye. The hiker, a young woman named Sarah, disappeared without a trace while hiking on a popular trail. There are no witnesses, and no one seems to know what happened to her.
Maggie begins her investigation by talking to Sarah's family and friends. She learns that Sarah was a bright and ambitious young woman who had recently graduated from college. She was planning to hike the entire length of the West Highland Way, a challenging but popular trail that runs through the Scottish Highlands.
Maggie also talks to the local police, but they are stumped. They have no leads, and they're starting to think that Sarah may have simply gotten lost. But Maggie doesn't believe that. She knows that Sarah was an experienced hiker, and she wouldn't have gotten lost on a trail that she had hiked many times before.
Maggie decides to start her own investigation. She hikes the trail that Sarah was on, and she talks to other hikers who were in the area at the time. She also checks the weather reports for the day that Sarah disappeared, and she finds that there was a sudden and violent storm that blew through the area.
Maggie starts to suspect that Sarah may have been caught in the storm and blown off the trail. She searches the area where the storm hit, and she eventually finds Sarah's body. Sarah has been dead for several days, and her body shows signs of blunt force trauma.
Maggie realizes that Sarah was murdered. But who would have killed her? And why?
Maggie continues her investigation, and she eventually uncovers a dark secret that Sarah had been keeping from her family and friends. Sarah had been involved in a dangerous relationship with a man who was abusive. Maggie believes that the man killed Sarah when she tried to break up with him.
Maggie tracks down the man, and she confronts him with her evidence. The man confesses to killing Sarah, and he is arrested. Maggie has solved the case, but she knows that Sarah's family and friends will never be the same.
Highland Fling is a gripping mystery that will keep you guessing until the very end. Maggie Devereaux is a complex and compelling character, and her determination to find the truth is inspiring. This is a must-read for fans of mystery and suspense.
