- The average human lifespan is about 72 years. That's a long time! But did you know that the human lifespan has actually increased over time? In the early 1900s, the average lifespan was only about 50 years.
- The world's largest ocean is the Pacific Ocean. It covers about one-third of the Earth's surface. But did you know that the Pacific Ocean is also the deepest ocean? The deepest point in the Pacific Ocean is the Mariana Trench, which is about 11,000 meters deep.
- The world's largest mountain is Mount Everest. It is about 8,848 meters tall. But did you know that Mount Everest is not actually the tallest mountain on Earth? The title of tallest mountain actually belongs to Mauna Kea, a volcano in Hawaii. However, Mauna Kea is mostly underwater, so Mount Everest is the tallest mountain above sea level.
- The world's oldest living tree is a bristlecone pine tree in California. It is about 5,000 years old. But did you know that the world's oldest living animal is a jellyfish? The jellyfish is called Turritopsis dohrnii, and it can actually revert back to its juvenile stage after it reaches sexual maturity.
- The world's most popular sport is soccer. It is played by over 250 million people in over 200 countries. But did you know that the most popular sport in the United States is actually American football?
